Esquire Presents Me in My Place with Natalie Zea

A notable photographer — a guy who shoots for Esquire from time to time — has started this thing we like: MeInMyPlace.com. He photographs women in their own homes, in their own clothes, at their own invitation. The results are, uh, intriguing. So we started asking some famous women to invite him over for the Me in My Place Esquire Sessions. And the results are, well, a lot of you seemed to like his Sarah Shahi photos.

Let's continue the series with Natalie Zea, the 35-year-old TV star you may or may not remember from Dirty Sexy Money or Hung, but who you should definitely watch on Season Two of the Elmore Leonard-approved show Justified. It airs Wednesdays at 10 P.M. on FX. Our photographer friend stopped by on a recent Wednesday morning.... —The Editors

I'm from the South, and so is my character. There's something sort of intrinsic in being a Southerner that doesn't go away. You can't get rid of it, but it's not something that's terribly obvious. You know, when you meet somebody and you ask them where they're from and they say, "Louisiana," you're like, "Of course you are."

There's a lot of unrequitedness involved in a lot of these women that I play. I'm drawn to the romantic aspect of a character. It's human emotion. It's much more fun to watch. And it's much more fun to play.

Our house is really, really cold — you walk in and the temperature drops about ten degrees for no reason. It's not the best in the winter, so I can't sleep bottomless. But in the summer, I go with nothing.

I sometimes go to the men's section at H&M and buy nice oversized shirts and have them as my house shirts, with little shorts or whatever. As long as my upper body is warm, the legs can handle it.

I have two cats. This one is such a little hooker. She'll come and hang out with anyone who walks in the house. We could have robbers come and she would be like, "Hey, what's up?" And she thinks that that's her bed. The other one, she wants none of it. She hangs out in my dirty clothes hamper. Loves it.

I'm not a big lingerie girl. I see it and I love it and I appreciate it and sometimes I even buy it, and then it never gets worn. It just seems like kind of a wasted middle step. Either you're dressed or you're not. What is this in-between stuff?

I'm not a big bra girl at all. And I'm finally on a show that's on cable, where I'm allowed to not wear a bra and I'm very happy about that. I've always been fighting for braless, so much so to the point where the networks asked the standards and practices to call up producers and be like, "You have got to get that broad to wear a bra, because we're having to airbrush out her nipples." Because nipples are awful. I mean, god forbid!

On really, really nice days, we have a back deck. If I don't have anything else to do, I try to spend a good hour of the morning out there. I read the paper, answer e-mails, eat breakfast, make phone calls. And then because it's such direct sunlight, it gets a little too hot, and I'm good. I've got myself.
